Micro-Credit Program for Sex Workers

About the Program

Young women become involved in the commercial sex industry through a variety of mechanisms. Often the result of an exploitive act--with coercion, deceit, or threat commonly employed--the woman is suddenly trapped in a life of danger and a indignity. Whether she is bound by physical confinement, debt bondage, or personal shame, exiting the industry can appear as in insurmountable obstacle.

The A.E.E. social services and micro-lending program is designed to help CSW's overcome these obstacles, gain empowerment, and regain control of their lives.

By aiding in venture planning, and providing access to capital, A.E.E. works hand in hand with each sex worker hoping for a new type of life.

Target Demographic

Direct and Indirect sex workers who are seeking to leave the sex industry.

The Sponsorship Process

The sponsorship of CSW's in the micro-lending program is unique, and supports the real world problems faced by most CSW's. Each sponsor is required to commit to a 12 month sponsorship agreement. By the end of the sponsorship, it is expected that the client will be supporting themselves financially without reliance on sex work.

The typical steps in a micro-loan process are:

    1) Suitable client identified, and business plan formulated;
    2) Sponsor located;
    3) Accommodation outside of brothel district secured;
    4) Capital loan dispensed
    5) Business commenced
    6) Loan repayment commenced
    7) Sponsorship terminated
    8) Loan fully repaid

Where Your Money Goes

Sponsorship funds are not used for business capital, but for the practical needs of the client during their period of transition. Such needs include accommodation costs, food allowance, and transportation costs. A portion of the monthly sponsorship is also directed towards program costs.
