Vunak is just 10 years old, yet he already possesses a well-defined sense of self and purpose. Despite never having attended school, Vunak is a quick learner and picks up on new ideas and concepts easily. A natural leader, he is always ready to assist the teacher in any way necessary. He has been instrumental in maintaining order in the classroom, and encouraging younger students to be their best.
Outside of school, Vunak is not unlike most other boys his age. He loves cars and motorcycles, and dreams of the day when he will have a whole store devoted to selling them. He knows it will take hard work, but as we have seen, this young man is not afraid of hard work.
Being raised in poverty by a single mother has created a profound sense of responsibility in Vunak. He has worked from an early age selling fruits and vegetables, and continues to do so when not attending the school program. Being only a child himself, he has none-the-less assumed a breadwinners role in the family. He is a child that has impressed our entire staff, and most certainly will impress all that come to know him.
In the six weeks since joining the bridge program, his reading and writing skills have improved dramatically. He is eager to attend each class and his attendance is near perfect.
This is a truly compassionate boy with much to offer the world.
