Srey Nech is a shy yet vivacious twelve year old. She lives with her mother and two other siblings in a simple dwelling surrounded by rubbish. Her mother works hard at selling “sweet cakes”, and is the sole income earner for the household. Her parents were divorced after her father’s gambling addiction became too great a burden on the family. She misses him at times, but mostly wishes that her mother did not have to work so hard to support her and her siblings.
Srey Nech had previously attended school but was forced to pull out when her sponsor was lost and her mother could no longer afford to pay her school fees. Having to leave school was a great disappointment to her, but she was consoled with the opportunity to join in the Academic Bridge Program. As a quick learner, she has quickly found her place in the classroom. Her favorite subject is English and she enjoys helping her new friends catch up to her more advanced level.
Aside from school, she has expressed various interests in sewing and fashion design. She dreams of one day becoming the owner of her own design firm. This is a child with contagious enthusiasm, who will do well in any endeavor she undertakes. We hope to give Srey Nech the opportunity to pursue her dreams, but cannot do it without your help. |
